Matthew is married to Jayna Dean who worked as a school nurse in the Campbell Elementary School District, and currently works as a managing Nurse for Kaiser in Milpitas. Matthew says she is the incredible patient and this was tested by a nearly decade long remodel of their home in Campbell that and he and his father accomplished adding nearly 2,500 square feet and a second story to their home.

They have four children: three girls and a boy. All four children have attended Del Mar High School. His oldest daughter, now a graduate of both Washington State University (Go Cougs) and UC Hastings School of Law recently passed the California Bar and has accepted a clerkship for a Superior Court Judge in Palmer, Alaska. Christopher graduated from University of Idaho and has been working as an Engine Operator for the BLM. He most recently was hired as an Engine Boss in Lone Pine, CA working for the US Forest Service. Whitney, his second daughter graduated from Seattle University in Seattle, WA and after having worked in the Pediatric Oncology and Marrow Transplants for Seattle, Children’s has moved back to the area and is working in a similar capacity at UCSF Benifhoff in San Francisco, CA. Matthew was excited about having graduated magna cum laude in his MBA program and his daughter Whitney pointed out he made into that category by same margin that she missed making into the next higher category summa cum laude. Courtney, their youngest is attending college and studying Early Childhood Education at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado where she expects to complete both her bachelors and masters. Lance Sachara, who moved in with the Dean family and graduated from Del Mar, recently graduated from California State University, Chico and works in the insurance industry.

From 1996 to 2004, Matthew served on the Campbell City Council and served as Vice Mayor in 1999 and Mayor in 2000. As a Councilmember, Matthew served our community in a number of roles on numerous committees covering everything from housing, to transportation, to flood control, to waste management, recycling and as an alternate on the sanitation district. As a Mayor/Councilmember, Matthew is very proud of the key role he played in selecting the location of the Downtown parking garage. He is also proud of having been a part of the Restoration of the Heritage Theatre, the Habitat for Humanities projects, and the restoration of the Peace on Earth sign atop the Pruneyard. Lastly, Matthew takes great pride in the beautifully revitalized downtown Campbell for which he and his fellow board member’s along with the outstanding Campbell City Staff created the blueprint and laid the groundwork.
