CUHSD Wireless Network
Wireless network connectivity available at Campbell Union High School Campuses

Campbell Union High School District technology services has implemented a wireless network throughout all school sites and District office.

Wireless Access for the CUHSD User

The convenience of a wireless connectivity will allow students and staff to increase communication in class and around campus. Staff and students will be able to connect in community areas ( i.e. libraries, cafeterias, and in some quad areas) and able to continue to work without needing access to a district computer.

Deployment Plan

Phase I: Wireless access points have been distributed throughout the district to give preliminary wireless coverage at all district campus.  This provides connectivity to all CUHSD staff, students and teachers without new network drops.

Phase II:  Additional access points will be installed in high use areas such as libraries, administrative office & classrooms with multiple wireless laptops.

Phase III:  Last of the additional access points will be installed to allow the monitoring of district assets containing RDIF tags.  Hardware leaving the district illegally can be monitored via the wireless control system, correlate to video collected by the surveillance camera to identify the perpetrator(s) of the event.

Technology Behind Wireless Access

Access points produce a signal, similar to a car alarm remote control.  These signals can traverse 50 to 100 ft depending upon the thickness of walls and other near by electronic equipment that will absorb or masks the wireless signal.  The access points use 802.11 a, b and g wireless protocols which most new laptops support.

Data Encryption for Wireless Access

Users will need to install a security certificate and enter their CUHSD account user name and password to establish a secure, encrypted connection.  Once connected the user will have full access to the network resources (i.e. e-mail, file server, printers, plotters, etc...) and internet access.  Guest access can be arranged for visitor from the site coordinator.
