CUHSD Virtual Learning Academy

The Campbell Union High School District will continue to offer the Virtual Learning Academy (VLA) online option for the 23-24 school year. CUHSD is committed to providing a full non-hybrid learning program for students this school year. The Virtual Learning Academy is a separate alternative for families to determine if it fits the needs of their individual student. Students will need to attend VLA full time, there will not be a hybrid option.

Please note that participation in the VLA program is a year long commitment. However, failure to comply with the VLA Independent Study Contract may result in removal of the program at an earlier time. Participation in the Virtual Learning Academy is not mandatory. It is a student/family choice.

In the Virtual Learning Academy:

  • There will be synchronous and asynchronous classes.
  • Weekly check-ins which require students to have their camera on.
  • Each student and parent/guardian must sign a written agreement before the start of the school year.
  • Students are still enrolled in their home school and may participate in after-school activities.
  • Students are allowed to participate in Athletics.
  • Students are allowed to attend dances, games and other school events.
  • Students are not allowed on campus during the school day.
  • Students will receive a high school diploma from their home school.
  • Seniors may participate in their home school’s graduation ceremony.
  • Students must attend class on time, which means logging into Zoom a couple minutes before class begins (in case of technical difficulties)
  • Students taking Edgenuity courses must log in Monday-Friday and must be “on pace”

What a successful student looks like:

  • Organized
  • Independent Learner
  • Attends class on-time
  • Asks questions during class
  • Attends Office Hours for additional support
  • Checks email on a daily basis, both school Gmail and Canvas email
  • Communicates regularly with teachers and staff
  • Uses the study resources that the teacher provides
  • If absent, reviews the materials for that day as soon as possible
  • Does assignments on time, not late (weekly)
  • Answers questions in class and participates during in-class activities
