Performance Measures

Testing & Achievement

The District's success is embodied in student performance. CUHSD uses several measures to monitor academic progress and learning opportunities.
Performance Measures – Details on Academic Performance Index (API) and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)

SAT/ACT/STAR – SAT and ACT test results and information on state testing and reporting (STAR)

School Accountability Report Cards (SARC) – An annual publication of each school’s programs, student learning, curriculum, standardized testing data, graduation and dropout rates, fiscal information, and a variety of other data.

The Local Agency Plan (LEA Plan) and the supporting documents include an analysis of services and programs that support all students in the district.
Academic Performance Index (API)

The API is a numeric index (or scale) ranging from a low of 200 to a high of 1000 that reflects a school's performance level based on the results of statewide testing. The API was established by California's Public Schools Accountability Act (PSAA) of 1999. Results from the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program and the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE) are used in calculating the API. The statewide API performance target for all schools is 800. A school's growth is measured by how well it is moving toward that goal. A school's base year API is subtracted from its next year's growth API to determine how much the school grew in a year.
Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)

The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001 is federal legislation that established a new definition of Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for all schools, districts, and the state, beginning with the 2002-03 school year. All schools and districts are required to meet all AYP criteria in order to meet federal NCLB accountability requirements. A school or district is identified for Program Improvement (PI) if it does not meet AYP criteria for two consecutive years within specific areas. A school or district is eligible to exit PI if it makes AYP for two consecutive years.
