Superintendent Robert Bravo's Message to Students on Air Quality

Dear CUHSD Students,

I learned late last night of an online petition to cancel classes today because of the current air quality conditions. CUHSD takes your concerns about the air quality seriously.

I do not take the decision to keep schools open lightly; I myself had to make the decision to send my own child, a kindergartener, to school today. The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority. It is my goal to keep schools open when possible because schools provide safe shelter and food to many students who may not have these things otherwise.

While schools remain open today, we respect that some families have chosen to keep their student at home based on medical advice related to health issues or family hardship. Ultimately, parents know what is best for their child based on his or her health needs. Should parents or guardians decide to keep their student at home, the absence will be excused.

We share your desire to keep all students safe. We will inform you if our current assessment changes.

Sincerely,

Dr. Robert Bravo

Superintendent
