Dear CUHSD Community,
We are now halfway through the first semester of the 2019-2020 school year and I am proud of the progress we are making toward our goals this school year. We continue to focus on
- making our school environments even more positive
- increasing support for students’ mental health and wellbeing by offering additional mental health first aid training to staff and providing informational resources on the impacts of vaping/e-cigarettes
- ensuring our instructional program is challenging and rigorous for all students
To achieve these goals and more, we must be able to attract and retain the best teachers in our high-priced area, maintain high-quality academic programs and provide similar academic opportunities as nearby school districts that have more local funding than we do. At a time when state funding for schools is unreliable and insufficient, local funding support is critical in order to improve our educational program for students. If we don’t increase local funding, we will lose teachers to nearby districts that offer higher salaries, or teachers will be forced to move to more affordable areas.
To address these challenges, the CUHSD Board of Trustees is considering placing a local school parcel tax measure on a future ballot. All of the funds will be locally controlled, will benefit schools in our own district, and could not be taken away by the State or used for other purposes. There also would be an exemption process for senior citizens.
