Kristiina Arrasmith, a teacher coach at Teach for America, has been appointed to the Campbell Union High School District board.

She replaces Wendy Dillingham-Plew, who stepped down for personal reasons Nov. 15, midway through her second term.

Arrasmith will serve until 2018, the next regular board election.

The board selected her from among 21 applicants for the seat. Board members cited her background as an educator and ability to bring a fresh perspective to the board.

Arrasmith, a graduate of the district’s Leigh High School, listed her priorities as working toward equity, closing the achievement gap and providing students with social and emotional support.

She has taught elementary school in Texas. Besides working at Teach for America, she teaches legal education and life skills to incarcerated youth.
