September Superintendent Message

Dear CUHSD Community,

With the first six weeks of school under our belts, I am inspired by the progress already being made on some of the priorities we established for the new school year. Collectively, we are putting a focus on making our learning environments even more positive and supportive of students' mental health and wellbeing.

Last week, I met with the new student advisory board, which includes 2019-2020 Student Board Members, Geetanjali Jain (Branham) and Emely Martinez Ramirez (Del Mar) and at least one student representative from each high school site. Students reiterated the need for mental health awareness and support.

Based on student and community feedback, we are providing more mental health training for staff members so they can further support students' socio-emotional well-being.  I am pleased to share that at least 30 staff members successfully completed Mental Health First Aid training, which teaches participants to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health challenges.  This work is important and can make a positive impact on students' lives.

We hope this can be a starting point for us as we continue to support students both academically and socio-emotionally.

Sincerely,

Robert Bravo, CUHSD Superintendent
