Del Mar High School Teacher Represents CUHSD At County Teacher of the Year Recognition

On Thursday, October 3, teachers across Santa Clara County were recognized at the 50th Annual Teacher Recognition Celebration at the heritage theatre. The yearly tradition is hosted by the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) and is the oldest and largest celebration of teachers in California and the most prestigious local award given to classroom teachers.

CUHSD Teacher of the Year and Del Mar High School teacher Kira Durant was one of the teachers honored at the celebration. Prospect High School’s band also performed at the event.

Ms. Durant was selected as CUHSD’s 2018-2019 for her commitment to students and her leadership in the successful roll-out of the district’s first one-to-one Chromebook program.

The District showed appreciation for Ms. Durant by releasing this statement featured in the ceremony's program: “Kira is an outstanding teacher who goes above and beyond for her classes and the entire school. She is someone who is wholeheartedly committed to doing what is best for kids. Kira is the embodiment of the spirit of Del Mar.”

Kira’s words of wisdom to new teachers:  “Find people who inspire you and hang out in their classrooms. Take care of yourself and your students. It's ok to laugh and have fun.”

The county Teacher Recognition Celebration helps promote public awareness of the efforts and contributions of teachers and their role in helping youth to succeed in the world. CUHSD is honored to be represented by Ms. Durant at this year's ceremony.
