Finishing the 2022-2023 School Year Strong
Greetings CUHSD Families,
As we close out the 2022-2023 school year, I want to acknowledge a few highlights from this year and I hope that you gain a deeper appreciation for the hard work of our staff here at CUHSD.
Before the end of the school year, I attended the AVID Graduation Ceremony at Del Mar High School. The AVID program provides students with the support to become the first generation in their families to attend college. The stories students shared at the ceremony was a testament to the impact of their teachers on their lives. This year, 98% of Del Mar’s AVID students were accepted to a 4-year university. This is a great example of advancements in equity we have made thanks to the work that our staff engages in every day.
Many of our student competitive teams demonstrated excellence. The Westmont Cheer team and Branham Volleyball teams, for example, earned CCS and CIF titles. Additionally, student clubs like Prospect Mock Trial and Branham Robotics had success at competitions regionally and nationally.
Our district also earned state distinctions. Boynton High School was named a Model Continuation High School for 2023 - making this nearly a continuous decade that Boynton has held this distinction. Additionally, Jose “JR” Gudino - our CUHSD mechanic specialist, was recognized as a state Classified School Employee of the Year by State Superintendent Tony Thurmond. Families don’t always get to see behind the curtain and learn about the work of our employees like JR. His recognition by the state exemplifies the quality of service that JR provides and how our classified employees have helped us keep smooth school operations over the last few years.
In collaboration with representatives from CHSTA, CSEA, and SEIU, we launched the CUHSD Labor Management Partnership - created through facilitation with the California Labor Management Initiative.
With the leadership of our Board of Trustees, we have continued to lay the groundwork for a strong future. The Board of Trustees voted to increase School Counseling staff - more closely aligning the ratio of students to counselor to the ratio recommended by the American School Counselor Association. The Board also commissioned a 20 year facilities master plan to prepare our education environments to meet the needs of the future. We have seen the benefits of the new student and staff spaces across the district made possible by the Measure AA Bond, and we look forward to future facilities modernizations.
We still have a lot to look forward to as we close out the year and I look forward to celebrating our accomplishments this graduation season.

Terminando el año escolar 2022-2023 con logros
Saludos familias de CUHSD,
Al cerrar el año escolar 2022-2023, quiero reconocer algunos aspectos destacados de este año y espero que obtenga una apreciación más profunda del arduo trabajo de nuestro personal aquí en CUHSD.
Antes del final del año escolar, asistí a la Ceremonia de Graduación de AVID en la Del Mar High School. El programa AVID brinda a los estudiantes el apoyo para convertirse en la primera generación de sus familias en asistir a la universidad. Las historias que los estudiantes compartieron en la ceremonia fueron un testimonio del impacto de sus maestros en sus vidas. Este año, el 98% de los estudiantes AVID de Del Mar fueron aceptados en una universidad de 4 años. Este es un gran ejemplo de los avances en equidad que hemos logrado gracias al trabajo que nuestro personal realiza todos los días.
Muchos de nuestros equipos competitivos de estudiantes demostraron excelencia. Los equipos de Westmont Cheer y Branham Volleyball, por ejemplo, ganaron títulos CCS y CIF. Además, los clubes de estudiantes como Prospect Mock Trial y Branham Robotics tuvieron éxito en las competencias a nivel regional y nacional.
Nuestro distrito también obtuvo distinciones estatales. Boynton High School fue nombrada Escuela secundaria de continuación modelo para 2023, lo que hace que esta sea una década casi continua en la que Boynton ha tenido esta distinción. Además, José “JR” Gudino, nuestro especialista mecánico de CUHSD, fue reconocido como Empleado Escolar Clasificado del Año por el Superintendente Estatal Tony Thurmond. Las familias no siempre pueden ver detrás de la cortina y aprender sobre el trabajo de nuestros empleados como JR. Su reconocimiento por parte del estado ejemplifica la calidad del servicio que brinda JR y cómo nuestros empleados clasificados nos han ayudado a mantener las operaciones escolares sin problemas durante los últimos años.
En colaboración con representantes de CHSTA, CSEA y SEIU, lanzamos la Asociación de Gestión Laboral de CUHSD, creada a través de la facilitación con la Iniciativa de Gestión Laboral de California.
Con el liderazgo de nuestra Junta Directiva, hemos seguido sentando las bases para un futuro sólido. La Junta Directiva votó para aumentar el personal de Consejería Escolar, alineando más estrechamente la proporción de estudiantes por consejero con la proporción recomendada por la Asociación Estadounidense de Consejeros Escolares. La Junta también encargó un plan maestro de instalaciones de 20 años para preparar nuestros entornos educativos para satisfacer las necesidades del futuro. Hemos visto los beneficios de los nuevos espacios para estudiantes y personal en todo el distrito que fueron posibles gracias al Bono de la Medida AA, y esperamos futuras modernizaciones de las instalaciones.
Todavía tenemos mucho que esperar al cerrar el año y espero celebrar nuestros logros esta temporada de graduación.
