NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING
EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR WAIVER
REQUEST BY THE CAMPBELL UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT
Notice is hereby given pursuant to California Education Code Section 33050 that a public
hearing will be held by the Board of Trustees of the Campbell Union High School District (the
“District”) at a regular meeting on May 21, 2026 at the hour of 6:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter
as convenient, at the District Office Board Room located at 3235 Union Ave San Jose, 95124.
The purpose of said hearing is to receive public comment regarding the District’s application to
the State Board of Education for a waiver on Extended School Year for 2026. The program is legally
required to have a total of twenty (20) instructional days, including holidays. Two holidays
(Juneteenth and Fourth of July) fall during the program, necessitating the waiver to reduce the
total number of instructional days. The District’s schedule for this year’s program will have a
total of fifteen (15) instructional days. The intention is for more students to attend the entirety of
ESY given the attrition we have experienced in prior years, more students attract more teachers
to teach, and increase the number of students who attend due to increased opportunities for
family vacations after an early July end date. The program school day will be from 8:30 a.m. to
2:00 p.m. We will have more than the required instructional minutes even going to fifteen days.
This does not impact our Post-Secondary program.
