I am excited to introduce you to Leigh’s leadership team for 2016-2017. Its members possess both the experience and the wherewithal to guide Leigh well into the future, and they are singularly committed to extending the school’s accreditation.
The new principal is Kara Butler. Kara has been a school administrator for almost 20 years, most recently serving as principal at Cupertino Middle School for 11 years. Previously, she was assistant principal at Homestead High School in Cupertino. Having sent her children to Leigh, she has unique insight into the needs of the community.
Joining Kara as Leigh’s new vice principal is Shannon Lane. Shannon previously served as vice principal at Rio Linda High School in Sacramento and taught English at Oak Grove High in San Jose.
Supporting Kara and Shannon will be assistant principals Rob Warren, Dr. Vince Leeburn and Craig Williams.
Rob is returning to his role, having served Leigh during the 2015-2016 school year. Vince was previously the dean of students at Prospect High School. Craig has been a dean of students at Moreland Middle School and Union Middle School, and he also coached frosh-soph football at Leigh in 2011.
Filling out the rest of Leigh High’s leadership team are: Athletic Director Jake Shaughnessy; Activities Director Crystal Wright; and Guidance Advisors Sandra Pula, Kathleen Rodriguez, and Tanya Silva. Tanya was part of the Leigh staff from 2008 to 2013.
Leadership continuity is important to a school’s success. The district did not plan on the relatively high amount of administrative team turnover at the end of the 2015-2016 school year, and I want to assure you that with the Board’s help Principal Butler and I will do everything we can to bring leadership stability to the Leigh campus.
